A place where Learning Meets Inspiration!

Kia ora! My name is Hamish, and HG Music is part my mission to make music accessible and achievable for as many people as possible.

Born and bred in Dunedin, New Zealand, I currently reside in Palmerston North in the lower North Island of New Zealand and am immensely proud of my heritage, my journey, and what's evolving as I build out my vision.

Throughout this site (and in my videos) you'll often hear, and read, the traditional Māori greeting, "Kia ora!" which is a unique greeting to New Zealand which literally translates to "Be Healthy" - my wish for you all!

I've always loved music, but (personally) struggled to learn the 'traditional' way and often found myself creating renewed ways to achieve amazing sounds, rhythms, and experiences through my ways of playing.

The backgrounds throughout the site show some of the beautiful sights from various destinations throughout New Zealand.

Become the artist as you navigate the visual journey.

The Musical

Vision

Your Music, Your Way

At HG Music, we’re built squarely on the belief that everyone is musical - from the rhythm of our hearts to the tapping of our toes, and everything in between. Sometimes you just need to find the right orchestra that connects with your groove. Music isn’t a talent reserved for the “gifted” few; it’s a language we’re all born with.

When I started learning to play the piano as a fresh-eyed 7-year-old, never would I have dreamed that I'd 'one day' turn my frustrations into a passion that'll take on the world.

Music changes lives. It changed mine!

See, I didn't always learn the way the traditional methods taught me.

I frustrated my teachers.

From the steady beat of a heartbeat before we’re even born, to the songs that weave through our memories, music is part of what makes us human. Neuroscientists have found that our brains light up in multiple regions when we hear or play music. Rhythm, melody, and harmony literally move us.

Whether you’re strumming your first chord, mastering a new riff or learning the cadences of a new song, the truth is the same: you’ve always had music in you.

The mission of HG Music is about helping you do is to bring your musical abilities out, one note at a time.

Books

Words that Inspire!

As an educator, I've spent years honing my craft and have always loved learning about ways to communicate.

So... alongside my musical endeavours, I invite you to read the introductory chapter from a book that I've been writing entitled "Why Is Everything So LOUD?!?" which is a story I've been writing to help my son navigate his big emotions as he journeys through school and life alongside his family and friends.
